Does my child need therapy?+
No two children are the same. Developmental norms are helpful guidelines, but they are not one-size-fits-all and are only one part of the bigger picture. There is a wide range of what is considered typical, and a speech-language pathologist can help look at your child's overall speech and language development to determine whether there may be a delay that needs professional support. Early identification and treatment are important because they can help children build communication skills during key stages of development.
What ages do you work with?+
We work with children from early intervention age (around 18 months) through school age. Each child receives an individualized plan based on their developmental stage, communication needs, and family goals.
How do we get started?+
The first step is a free phone consultation. We'll talk about your concerns, share information about our evaluation and therapy approach, and help you understand the next steps. From there, we can schedule a full evaluation when you're ready.
What should I expect at my child's first session?+
First sessions are all about building connection. Our therapists take time to get to know your child through play and observation, so therapy feels safe and engaging from the start. We'll also chat with you about goals and routines that work for your family.
Where will therapy take place?+
Wonder Talk serves families throughout the Greater Los Angeles Area. Our office is located in Westchester, CA. We also provide services in-home, at your child's daycare or school, and via secure telehealth sessions, depending on what works best for your family.
How long will my child be in therapy?+
The duration of therapy depends on many factors, including your child's current speech and language skills, the level of support they need, other developmental and/or behavioral needs, how early concerns were identified, previous therapy history, participation during sessions, and home carryover. At the initial evaluation, we'll create a personalized plan together and continue to check in regularly to adjust goals and recommendations as your child grows.
Will my child grow out of their speech issues?+
Recent research shows us that the "wait-and-see" approach is outdated and risky, therefore not recommended. "Wait-and-see" means losing out on acquisition and strengthening of foundational speech-language skills during a critical learning period of your child's life. Studies show that children with untreated speech-language delays can be at a higher risk of social, emotional, behavioral, and cognitive problems later in school and in adulthood. Given that, each type of speech-language challenge is assessed and treated differently. Discuss your concerns with a trained speech therapist.
Do you take insurance?+
We partner with Westside Regional Center and Easterseals Southern California. For families not using one of these coverage options, private-pay services are also available. If you're using out-of-network insurance benefits, we can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement. Reach out to learn what works best for your family.
